Death Records of Fairfield County Ohio
Combined set of Volumes I and Volume II. (1867-1909)
This is a combined set of Volumes I (1867-1889) and Volume II (1890-1909). Death records were not required in Ohio until around 1867 and were kept at the county level by the Probate Court where they were hand written in the death books. Death records were kept in this manner from 1867 until 1908, when death certificates became a State requirement. The original death records can be found in the Fairfield County Probate Court. The information used in these books was extracted from microfilm copies of these original records. Every attempt was made to accurately reflect the information contained in the death records and to transcribe the records exactly as entered. Misspellings etcetera, were transcribed as they occurred in the original. The books are sorted by the SURNAMES of the deceased and sometimes contain the names of the father and the mother.
There is an overlap between Book I and Book II for the year 1890; and an overlap between this book and the State death certificates for the years 1908 and 1909. Be sure and check all sources for these overlapping years.
