
Greenfield Township
Greenfield Township was established in 1805 and was named for its beautiful meadows. In legal terms it is known as Township 15, Range 19. Isaac Meason came and settled here in 1799. Some other early settlers were John Meason, Joseph Stewart, William McFarlin, Ralf Cherry, Joshua Meeks, and Samuel Randall. The first saw and grist mill combined was erected in 1800, at what was called Loveland's Mill, now called Rockmill. It was built by Joseph Loveland and Hezekiah Smith. Known to many as the best school in the county at the time was Greenfield Academy, it was built in 1830 by Jacob Claypool.
Towns and Villages:
Carroll ---laid out by William Tong and established on May 25, 1829.
Dumontsville ---post office started on May 4, 1837. Village was laid out by J.W. Dumont and established July 6, 1841.
Havensport ---laid out by Isaac Havens and James Holmes and established on December 22, 1829.
