
Amanda Township
Amanda Township was established in 1805. In legal terms it is known as Township 13, of Range 20. Some of the early settlers were Warren Spitler, William Ward, Frederick Leathers, William Hamilton, Thomas Barr, John Christy, and men with the last names of Norris and Dennison. The Presbyterians built the first church in this township in 1838 and was organized by Rev. Hogue, the first minister was William Jones.
Towns and Villages:
Amanda -- laid out in 1819 by Samuel Kester(Kestler).
Middlegate -- laid out in 1818 but did not materialize.
New Strausburg -- laid out by John Christy in 1807, the road sign for this village was removed in the 1970s.
Royalton -- also known as Tobytown. Laid out by a man with the last name of Allen, in 1810.
Hubersburgh -- John Huber laid out this town in 1810, but it never materialized
Cedar Hill -- no info available.
